Fused Plastic: Playing with Scraps

As I started to create plarn, make plastic flowers and use plastic films in various ways I’ve ended up with lots of scraps. I’ve been collecting so many bits and bobs of colored plastic films that I’m unwilling to throw away. I have long been interested in fusing plastic bags, I started with an iron and some cardstock when I was working on developing my holiday ornament diy kits to now using a heat press, thanks to a neighborhood fried who was willing to gift me one that was sitting unused. As I’ve played with the scrapsI’ve been hanging onto, including a lot of mesh produce bags , I have many interesting colors and textures to incorporate into the fusing. I’ve learned I really enjoy the process of collaging all the random bits together and seeing how they react to being heat up and fused by the heat press. These unique transparent pieces are perfect for catching light and for finding play and expirementation in my work.
